Peace stilled my mind
like an easy moving river
winding its way through
the countryside
on a cool spring day.
I dipped my hand into the river
and let the water droplets
drip from my fingers
as I watched the quiet water
flow slowly by.
Then I rested
on the banks of the
river with my beloved,
and we talked of simple things,
little nothings of the day,
for the day was too sweet
for complications.
And then we
slid into the river
to swim and I felt lost
in peace and love
for the whole rest of the day.
When nighttime came
we built a fire
and cooked a simple meal.
We laughed as we ate,
for a day of peace is so good for the heart.
And then we came together
on the banks of the river and said,
“Let’s meet here tomorrow.
Let’s do this every day.”
